Something with insomnia (because I haz it and can't do anything productive with my fried brain except keep posting silly prompts). How about fatal familial insomnia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatal_familial_insomnia)? Any character of your choosing. There's potential for hallucinations and phobias and all that general mindfuckery.
Given the lack of cure, character death seems inevitable, but all the future science fiction can probably find a way around that if you want it to. I don't mind, either way.
