❶ This is a general meme, so any characters, pairings, and themes are acceptable, as long as it centers around Dark Angel and follows the rules of the comm.

Except maybe it's not so bad that Max is helplessly enamored with his cute little faaaace, and likes to spoil him. Gen for this one, please.

When he was young, it was the noises of his brother and his father, Isaac's giggling turning to distraught wails over the years, before stopping completely one violent day. As he grew, more voices joined, new inflections and tones, new footsteps to learn and recognise. The soldiers are loud, for despite the fact that they are trained to operate in silent, ruthless efficiency they are but children, and it takes time for even the bleakness of Manticore to subdue their instinctive noise-making
Joshua listens through walls and grates, deciphering conversations that echo and fade into nothingness. The noise often seems to blend into one continuous beat of stepstepstepstep, bootprints marking time in the dust, and Joshua feels as though the beat will never stop, grinding into his skull until he scratches at his scalp, curled up into a ball in the damp underbelly of the Manticore beast.
It is the anomalies that save him. They scream and shout and moan with unrelenting passion - angry, afraid, and so alive, so real that they break through his whimpers, through the hands pressed to his ears, through the never ending beat of the soldiers, and they make him stand. The anomalies call to him, beg for his help, and in doing so, they give him a reason to survive, to remain strong and sane and caring, until the time comes when he can leave.
And so he saves them in return. He sneaks through passages unused and forgotten, listens again to the rise and fall of voices, and learns how to use his canine DNA to his advantage - sniffing out unattended food, water, even medical supplies on occasion, and he passes it through the bars to desperate, greedy hands. He finds that his strength is greater than a human, possibly even more than the new breed of soldiers Manticore is so proud of - the pretty, tiny X-5's, who embody all that the scientists hope for and yet are still so flawed. He fights, when he has to, when the guards and soldiers alike forget who he is - that he was first, that he is special, and that father cares for him, even from afar.
And then he meets his little fellow, and for a while the world is more than just noise, for a while it is colour and movement and he is a part of it, not merely in the shadows. But the world isn't like that, not for Joshua, and he is again relegated to the darkness, to an old and abandoned home, to living life through holes in a wall, and infrequent visits. And now the world is quieter than it has ever been, and Joshua feels the beat of the footsteps returning. But this time, it is not noise that saves him, it is colour. Yellows and blues and the feeling of being alive as he transforms blank white into explosions of joyous colour. Joshua's life is separated into two parts - sound and sight, and one day, he knows he will find a balance.

They held no life, no flicker of conscience and certainly didn't believe in consequences. Not that he really cared he left him high and dry out there - he wasn't a pushover. But the lack of backup, of warning about it? Stung.
No consequences, huh? Alec had thought he could relate to the latter, except.. he sort of liked to enjoy life on its rare high points. Seemed his twin wasn't able to register those and let them pass by. Or maybe what he felt was good meant little to him.
Either way - he couldn't work with him. But work around him? Hm.
"-494." Ben tips his head aside and frowns a little at the turned back, the slight twitch in response to his speaking. What, was he still so.. sensitive about being called by number and rank as he was? He would never make it. "...You're angry."
Not a question, of course. But he wasn't about to answer when he was called in that tone. Devoid of recognition past the inked barcode at the back of his neck. This guy... he didn't have a shred of humanity inside himself -
"Alec -" "What -"
They both turn and Alec stares. Are they surprised... at the change, the relenting, both? - he can't be sure. Ben takes a step towards him and Alec - he stands there in wait. And damn, even some hope. That maybe the use of his name, however accidental in its urging.. is still progress. Still some way of being seen - called and having it mean something.
He gives a slow smile, eyes light with challenge. What? Gonna deny it now?
Note/s: heh, so.. yeah. Ages since I've written anything with these two, or seen the show. I hope it didn't suck too much. And it was real simple, so.. yeah.

It's frantic, it's hot, it's quick. And it's angry. It's rage. It's fear. It's frustration. It's forgiveness.

He does. A yelp.
"You deserve that."

Silence. A sigh. Some shuffling. Rustling of sheets. A cold wind across his bare ass.
"Where are you going?"

He doesn't respond. Knows he's in the wrong. Knows he doesn't deserve the help. Doesn't deserve anything.
"Stop thinking so loud."
Hot breath across his cheek, voice closer than he thought.
"I thought you were fixing my fuck up?"
"I am."
He doesn't ask. Doesn't deserve an explanation. Probably won't even understand.
"You know we're gonna have to talk about this. In a non-screaming way."
He knows. Earlier screaming and yelling still ringing in his ears. Unfair, undeserved. Harsh.
"Yeah."
"Now?"
He opens his eyes. Sits up. Avoids the stare.
"I'm sorry."
"You better be."
"I won't do it again."
"You better not."
"Please forgive me?"
"Fuck you."
He nods. He deserves *that*.

I apologize for it being so short, incredibly vague and only slightly what was prompted (hey, it is an argument and a make-up!).
