Summary: Alec gets wounded when he leaves TC and Max has to patch him up.
Prompt: From [livejournal.com profile] alyse. Max and Alec. First time, but not heat related, just a natural progression of their friendship.

Author's note: Okay so there is actually more to this story (in my head) and I may use the same 'verse I've created here to do the two other prompts I got, so it you're left wanting, don't worry, there will (probably) be more. Not betaed, though I'm on the prowl for one. So this is all me. All mistakes are mine. Typos suck but they happen. Enjoy the story, sorry for any screw ups.

“Jesus Max, do you have to be such a hard ass all the time?” Alec asked as he yanked his jacket off and moved to toss it in the bathroom tub. That blood would never get out and it was his favorite jacket too. Carefully he tried to pull his shirt over his head but it hurt to lift his arms up that high and so Max was right behind him, helping him get the bloody shirt off.

“I’m not the numbskull who decided to jump in front of a bullet, genius,” Max replied, tossing the shirt next to the jacket. “You shouldn’t have even been out there. You know the Senate is voting on the bill to protect trangenics and transhumans this week. Tempers are flaring on both sides and it’s gonna get worse when they come to a decision. Whatever the outcome people aren't going to be happy.”

“I had my reasons for going,” Alec replied.

“Oh yeah? What’s that?"

Alec let out a sign before admitting his reason. “I wanted a pizza.”

“You really are stupid,” Max shook her head, guiding him towards the couch and forcing him to sit down while she inspected the wound. She shoved his hands away none too gently, before prodding at the gaping hole.

“That hurts, devil woman,” Alec growled.

“Deal.”

“It’s a wonder they didn’t make you a field medic. Your bedside manner is just fantastic,” he grumbled, hissing when she pressed too hard around the open wound.

“Just shut up and let me get this bullet out,” she ordered, moving away from him for a moment before returning with a medical kit. “You shouldn’t have gone out there.”

“You said that.”

“You could have come down to the mess hall, I’m sure you could have flirted with one of the cooks to get them to make you a pizza,” Max said with more disdain than was necessary as she took out a pair of pliers.

“No brick oven, Maxie, it’s not the same.”

“Don’t call me that,” she grumbled as she dug the pliers into his wound, digging around for the bullet.

“Shit Max, you could have given me something for the pain,” Alec groaned, squeezing his eyes and waiting for her to be finished.

“You’re a soldier.”

“Yeah, a soldier who has become surprisingly accustomed to civilian life.”

“Just be quiet, I’m trying to concentrate,” Max replied, slowly retracting the pliers, bullet clamped tightly between them. With a smile of triumph, she stood and dumped the bullet before returning to Alec’s side, noting that he was breathing a little faster now. She worked quickly to clean the wound, not wanting it to get infected.

“You’re an angel of mercy, Max,” Alec groaned sarcastically as the antiseptic burned in his abused flesh. “Just kill me now.”

“Don’t tempt me,” Max replied as she reached for the suture kit.

“You always this nice when Logan gets hurt?”

Max’s eyes leveled with his for a moment before unceremoniously sliding the needle through his skin, eliciting another hiss from Alec. She quickly sewed up the wound before cleaning it one last time. She stood and headed into the bathroom to wash up. When she returned, Alec was still laying slouched on the couch, his eyes half lidded as his breathing began to return to a more even pace. Even for a transgenic that had to hurt. Max hadn’t done much to make it less uncomfortable either.

“I wouldn’t head out of TC again until things cool down, Alec,” Max said, gathering her stuff to head back to her own place.

“Why were you there?”

“What?”

“Why were you there?” Alec repeated, sitting up a little more and groaning as he did. In a few days the wound would be completely healed. In a few hours it probably wouldn’t even hurt anymore, but right now it was still fresh and still hurt pretty bad.

Max hesitated to answer before one of her patented brush off sprang from her lips. “I was saving your ass; you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.”

“Just funny how you were suddenly there,” Alec shrugged. "

Max crossed her arms over her chest. Alec wasn’t going to let her leave it at that and she looked annoyed because of it as she set her things back down on the kitchen counter. “Someone said they saw you leaving.”

“So you decided to follow me? Stalker much?”

“If I didn’t follow you, who would be around to save you ass, Alec?” Max asked with a cocked eyebrow. He just smiled at her. “Look, think what you want, but everyone knew that leaving TC right now was dangerous. A lot of the kids, they look up to you, for whatever reason that may be. The last thing any of us needed was to see you strung up on the front page of the newspaper. Those people are out for blood right now and they almost got it.”

“All heart,” Alec smirked.

“Oh, shut up,” Max growled, annoyed and reached for her stuff again to leave.

“Wait, Max,” Alec called, pushing himself to his feet and catching her arm before she got very far. She turned and looked up at him expectantly. “Thanks. For you know…saving my ass again.” His eyes held hers for a long moment and when she didn’t reply right away, he went in for the kill. “Maybe I can make you dinner. As a thank you, ya know? I know I screw up a lot, and you always have my back. The least I can do is feed you or something.”

“How do I know that won’t be dangerous to my health?” Max asked, though she was already setting her stuff down.

“Well I make no promises, I was going into enemy territory just for good food after all,” Alec replied, leaving out any sort of quip about Logan or the gourmet food he had always served her.

“Maybe I’ll pass on the dinner,” Max shook her head with a small smile.

“And skip straight to the desert?” Alec asked. The coy smile the spread across his lips elicited a single punch from the female transgenic, landing right on Alec’s shoulder. He hissed in pain, reaching for his bullet wound on his side as a surprised and shameful looked swept her feature.

“Oh crap, sorry, I forgot.” She stepped forward, moving his hand away to see if she’d torn open the stitches. Alec looked down to inspect the wound as well. The area around the stitches was read and angry, but they were still in place. Max reached out, running her fingers along the wound. Her touch sent an electric shock through his body and his sharp intake of breath caused her head to tilt up towards him, face mere inches from his own. Her mouth opened like she was going to say something but nothing came out.

“They look okay,” he commented, saving her from the rare occurrence of being speachless.

“Yeah. I don’t need to redo them,” she replied, her hand still resting against his skin.

“That’s good,” Alec nodded, taking in a deep breath and breathing in her scent. “Real…real good.”

It was hard to think with her so close. Not five minutes before she’d been sewing that very wound shut and all he wanted was for her to hurry and finish up. Now he suddenly wished they’d tore themselves open because then he’d have her standing as close as she was for a few minutes longer. That thought scared him and exhilarated him all at the same time.

“Max?” he whispered, and watched at her eyes dropped to his lips. His heart nearly pounded of his chest at the flicker of her eyes and for a moment he worried she’d be able to hear it.

“Yeah?” Max replied, her gaze finally lifting to his eyes once. They stared at each other, drinking each other in. The most infuriating person on the planet was mere inches from his face and Alec couldn’t get enough. Maybe he wasn’t thinking when he leaned forward, pressing his lips against hers, but before he realized it he was kissing her, and after a moment she was kissing him back. Her arms wrapped themselves around his neck, drawing him closer to deepen their kiss and a few moments later, Alec was lifting her up and her legs were around his waist as they moved back towards the bedroom.

When Alec’s calfs hit the bed he sat down, bring Max down with him as he slid her jacked off her. His hands slipped under the hem of her shirt, fingertips sliding against her smooth skin. Her lips broke off from his and trailed their way down his jaw as his hands began to work her shirt up over her head. They paused for the briefest of moments, allowing for her shirt to be discarded, before resuming their activities. Her hands ran along the expanse of his bare chest, fingers pausing as they trailed over the stitched up wound on his side before continuing lower and reaching for his belt buckle.

Alec threw his head back as he felt her release the button on his jeans. For a mere second he worried that maybe she was in heat and that all this was, a byproduct of that occurrence, but there was no scent of pheromones in the air and so with a clear conscious he let her continue on her way.

Her mouth moved away from his jaw, down his neck and began to make trails down his stomach as her hands worked at getting his jeans off. An animalistic growl escaped his throat as he felt her brush against him, rubbing him through the thin material of his boxer. He couldn’t take much more of this.

“Max?” he called, watching as her eyes flicked up at him. They were clouded over with a haze of desire. Different from what happened in a heat, but similar in a way. Neither of them were probably thinking too clearly. “You sure?”

She say anything, only nodded and that was all the reassurance he needed.

XOXOXOXOXOX

It was quiet. There were sounds of people talking outside the building, and whoever had the apartment above Alec was either just moving in or redecorating from the amount of furniture and stuff that was being moving around for the last half an hour but the bedroom was quiet with the exception of the water running in the next room.

After a few minutes the shower finally stopped running. Max had wanted to get cleaned up after everything; she honestly wasn’t much of a cuddler--not that he had expected her to be. When she stepped out of the bathroom door, she was wearing one of his shirts and had put her own jeans back on. “Not sure where you tossed my shirt,” she said as she moved towards the bed, “but I can’t find it anywhere.”

“That was the idea,” he replied with a wry smile.

“Figured as much.” She stated before moving around the room, gathering her stuff up and letting out a long breath.

“Heading out?” he asked, pushing away any disappointment he might have felt. It was hard to be too disappointed after the amazing sex he’d just had and it was amazing. Max had an inner wild cat she didn't always let the world see. He liked that in a woman.

“Yeah…got a lot of things to take care of. Probably shouldn’t have stayed here as long as I did,” she admitted. Alec nodded as Max shifted uncomfortably under his gaze. She was running. Not that he hadn't expected it, but maybe he'd hoped he'd be wrong. He could read her as easily as Joshua read all those books. The days events were to be strikly catagorized as Top Secret.

“Alec—”

“I know,” he quickly interrupted.

She shook her head and moved to sit down on the bed besides him. She needed to get the words out. “It was a mistake,” she continued.

“But a fun one,” he added with a smile that only touched his lips. He was building up walls a fast as she was talking. The last thing he needed was for Max to think she'd found a weak spot in the Alec Defense System.

She smiled back, if with even less enthusiasm than him. “We shouldn’t…we shouldn’t have done that.”

“Why not?”

“Why not? I could give you a million reasons.”

“Give me one."

“We don’t even like each other.”

“I beg to differ.”

“Alec, there are things a lot more important right now than sex and trying to figure out what it means. It’s better to just stop this now before things get even more complicated than they already are.”

“Have it your way, Maxie,” Alec shrugged, sitting up, reaching for his pants to pull them on. He could feel her eyes on his as he grabbed a shirt out of his dresser and tugged it over his head. Without looking back at her, he headed into the kitchen, her footsteps followed behind.

“Alec…”

“I get it, Max. I won’t breathe a word,” he said quickly, opening the fridge to peruse for food.

“I’m sorry.”

He didn’t turn around or respond, just kept looking for something to eat. After a few moment of silence he heard her finish gathering everything up before the front door opened and closed. He straightened, looking at where Max had just made her exit, before moving to grabbing something from the fridge and closing the door. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the three tubs of oil paint and set them on the counter. It figured Max would leave like that, she really had thought he was shallow enough to go outside of TC for a stupid pizza. He supposed that was his own fault for letting her think so, but she didn't even question it.

Getting shot hadn't exactly been plan A when he'd agreed to get Joshua the paint he needed but maybe things worked out the way they needed to. Maybe this was just the way things were supposed to be.

A/n: Like I said, I dont want to leave the story here, but as far as the prompt goes, this is where I'm cutting it off.
