soraslight. Do you think I own it? Really, come on. Comments sate the hunger in my head.
On the streets he was just another of the struggling people trying to make his own way in one of the broken cities of a crumbling nation. The slight drizzle left goosebumps on the exposed skin of his neck and he shrugged up his jacket to hide the proverbial mark of Cain he'd been born with. He could've stayed in Terminal City, it was safer there, in their own little 'Freak Nation', but he liked to have his own place. It took the edge off at the end of the day, to go two steps without being asked on the status of this or how the negotiations with this faction was going.
In the end, it felt like another cage, only gilded. A chain link fence instead of bars. It made him itch, somewhere deep underneath his skin, put him on edge and made him want to run just to taste the dirty city air.
Anything, as long as it was free.
Shrugging off his jacket as he came into the apartment, it was business as usual. His eyes were down as he flipped the light switch on and placed his jacket on the hook near the door. The soft creak of a boot on the wooden floorboards and he blurred, grabbing the intruder by his throat, shoving him into the wall so hard it knocked plaster over both their heads.
Brain caught up with body as his hazel eyes widened at his assailant, though he didn't breathe a word. The big blonde man stared at him, shock and pain and fear in those eyes. Alec took in his appearance quickly, sweat, dirt, rain from the outside, and blood. He breathed in deep through his nose, the crimson smattering was all his, though the other scent of a person set a soft growl rumbling through the younger X5s chest.
White had done this. He could smell it all over 599.
Alec's grip loosened and he dropped his hand to his side. Zack swallowed, licking his split lips. "I'm Zack?" he whispers and though it probably wasn't the best thing to do, he nodded to confirm. It seemed to be what the older one needed. He closed his eyes briefly, a hint of a smile on his lips as he tried to stand straighter.
He towered over Alec a moment before those brilliant blue eyes rolled to the back of his head, swayed and started to fall. Alec caught the bigger man easily and lowered him into his arms as he struggled to remain conscious. "Can't tell Max. She won't understand." he mumbled. The younger transgenic nodded mutely and it seemed to ease the mind of the one he held in his arms. "Rest, Zack." he said, it was soft, but firm.
"Adam never sounded right..." he mumbled, before darkness overcame him and he lost the fight to stay awake.
Alec picked him up and contemplated the couch before realizing that Max could easily walk into his place at any given moment. He settled on his bed in the master bedroom and took the wounded man there, laying him down. Hours later, he had him patched up as well as he could do without going to anyone else and resting in fresh, clean clothes. The levity of his predicament started to set in and he scrubbed a hand through his hair and over his face.
"Shit."
